| Venice
Venice is the most romantic city of the world. It is is separated
into six different districts. They are San Polo, Cannaregio, San Marco,
Santa Croce, Castello, and Dorsoduro.
Venice is almost covered in water and most of the residences and buildings
are built in the water and above. The amount of water makes this city the
“City of Water”. Because of the architecture and romantic feel to
this city, it is known as one of the most beautiful cities in the entire
world. Gondolas are the major transportation choice for moving about
the city and have bridges for those who do not need to travel by water.
The city of Venice is not one island itself but moves across the 118
smaller islands of the Venetian Lagoon and the northeast side of
Italy near the Adriatic Sea. There are canals throughout the city making
it a central mode of travel. Being a city of water makes it great for the
trade of grain, silks, and spices between waterways.
Venice is rich in art and cultural history. From about the fourteenth
century music, art, and theatre have dominated the Italian city of Venice.
Each century has brought a trend in one art form or another. The Renaissance
was a large influence on the art and design of the city and is shown in
many of the art pieces displayed today. The creation of the canvas used
for painting was created in Venice sometime around the later part of the
Fourteenth Century and were rough in feel and texture, not like those used
today.
The Venice Film Festival is the largest film festival held anywhere
in the world. It was created in 1932 and has never missed its occurrence
in August or September of each year following. |
