| Madrid
The capital pf Spain and one of the most important
centres for finance in Europe, Madrid is a delightful blend of the old
and the new. The city came into being in the 9th century and has since
then witnessed different cultures and rulers. Today the city is as important
a tourist attraction as it is for business travelers.
Madrid is also the top destination in Europe for
art. The city houses three very famous museums forming the Golden Triangle
of Art. These museums are the Prado Museum, the Thyssen Bornemisza Museum
and the Reina Sofia Museum. Apart from these three museums there are many
others that might catch a tourist’s interest. The city is also famous for
its Opera houses that perform mainly on the weekends. Some of the other
attractions of the city are the Plaza Mayor, The Gran Via, the Palacio
Real, the Templo de Debod, the Las Ventas, The Puerta de Europa, the various
theatres in the city and the Café Central.
The night life in Madrid will appeal to those
who like to party hard. On the weekends the city’s nightlife truly comes
alive with all its youth dancing the nights away. Discos and clubs are
full with the youth who are just out to have some fun.
Bull fighting is another specialty of the city.
The Plaza de Toros (the bullring) in Las Ventas was constructed in 1929
and is said to be by many the centre of the world’s bull fighting. This
plaza can seat 25,000 people. The Spanish bullfighting season is from March
to October every year. During the middle of March up until mid-June bullfights
are an everyday affair. This is during the festival of the patron saint
of Madrid, San Isidro. For the rest of the season, the bullfights are held
on Sundays and public holidays. |
