Banks in Florence

Bank opening hours: Banks in Italy are opened from 8.00/8.30am until 1.30 pm and from 2.30/3.00 pm to 4 pm from Monday to Friday.

You will find foreign exchange offices at airports, railway stations, major hotels and tourist resorts. Use them only for emergencies, due to high commissions and unfavourable exchange rates.

Credit cards are widely accepted in stores and restaurants. The most common card are Visa and Mastercard. Amex and Diners are less popular.

There are cash dispenser machines that you can use with your credit card. We advise strongly against using them due to the high commissions you will have to pay.

Carry as little cash as you need for the small expenses like buses or taxi fare, thefts are not uncommon in tourist locations throughout Italy.

Our advise: Little cash in your wallet, pay as much as you can with your credit card. This will give you the best exchange rate and you avoid unnecessary foreign exchange commissions.
