Florence
The Uffizi Gallery: Some of the most important
and greatest art collections in the world are contained here. It also ranks
as the world’s oldest museum. Most guide books, travel sites, or tour operators
will be very vocal about the importance of a visit to this great museum
while on a trip to Florence. But, what they seldom tell you is that advance
booking, long before you set out on your trip is absolutely essential to
gain access to this wonderful museum. Spot bookings are hardly ever possible,
though you will find long winding ques in front of the museum every single
day.
The Duomo: Duomo is another wonder of Florence.
You will not miss this magnificent building because it can be seen virtually
from everywhere and is so dominating. You can savor a cup of coffee from
one of the surrounding piazza. walk around and appreciate every aspect
of it. This building was once the largest cathedral in the world and today,
600 years after it was built, it still is the 4th largest. he Duomo is
unique for its dome or “Cupola”.
Another of the wonders of Florence not to be missed
is the Duomo. Actually, it is impossible to miss this magnificent building
because it dominates the city and can be seen from virtually everywhere.
Savor the views of it whilst enjoying a coffee at one of the cafes in the
surrounding piazza. Walk around it, pausing every now and then to appreciate
it from every aspect. View it from more distant, elevated, positions around
the city. This was once the largest cathedral in the world and even now,
nearly six hundred years after it was built, it is the fourth largest.
While at Duomo, ascend this incredible feat of engineering. To do that,
enter the stairway leading up inside the dome, between its inner and outer
shells. Once you reach the top, you can step outside on to an external
gallery for a magnificent view of the city and the surrounding Tuscan countryside. |
